Dodgers, A's Play to a 3-3 Tie
Posted Mar 7, 2012
While the end result ultimately doesn't matter, there's nothing quite as unsatisfying in baseball as a tie. I know the precautionary measures for which the decision was made, but still, the game wasn't complete. Hopefully there will be a more decisive conclusion tomorrow.
-Presumed 6th or 7th outfielder Cory Sullivan collected three of the Dodgers four hits. The 32 year old journeyman figures to spend most of the season in Albuquerque, behind a pane of glass that reads "Break in case of emergency."
-Not-quite-forgotten Ivan De Jesus Jr had the other Dodgers hit. He also drew a walk and is 2 for 5 so far this spring. Once the heir apparent at second base, IDJ2 finds himself in prospect purgatory, watching his opportunities dwindle while languishing in Triple A.
-The Dodgers pen looked fairly sharp today.
was the first to appear and dominated, retiring the side in order without allowing a ball to leave the infield.
came in and tossed a scoreless frame. finally, Javy Guerra entered but had problems finding the strike zone, walking two. However, he escaped the jam unscathed.
-Another inauspicious debut for a Dodger pitcher. This time, it was Aaron Harang's turn to take abuse, allowing two runs on four hits in two innings. Five of the six outs he recorded were fly balls. On the plus side, he didn't walk anyone.
-The same compliment can't be paid to
, who failed to display much control today. He walked the first batter he saw and wild pitched him to second. In his second inning of work, his lone strikeout victim reached first safely on a wild strike three. He also hit a batter and allowed a run. Control has always been a problem for Withrow, so hopefully he improves as the spring progresses.
-While the offense did draw an impressive 8 walks, the team grounded into three double plays, went 0 for 9 with runners in scoring position and left 7 men on base. The caveat is the fact that the lineup was comprised mainly of backups.
The Dodgers head back to Camelback for a rematch with the A's. Chris Capuano makes his Dodger debut against Oakland's top prospect Jarrod Parker. Game time is 12:05pm.
