-The Topes couldn't win forever and they proved that tonight. With Alex Castellanos on the DL, the offense struggled to get going until it was too late. The team scored 4 times in the 8th and once in the 9th on SVS's solo homer, but the damage had already been done. Joe Becker and Trent Oeltjen also had a pair of hits each. John Ely took the loss, allowing 5 runs in 4.1 innings.
-Matt Magill bounced back from his last start, in which he allowed 8 runs in 3 innings, to shut down the Tennessee Smokies for 7 innings, allowing just 1 run and striking out 6. Shawn Tolleson recorded his 4th save and hasn't allowed a run this season. J.T. Wise had a perfect day at the plate, reaching base all 5 times. He's now hitting .362. Blake Smith clubbed his 4th double and is batting .343 over his last 10 games.
-The Quakes fell behind when Andres Santiago allowed 5 in the 4th and couldn't recover. They attempted a comeback late, with an Austin Gallagher solo homer in the 7th and a 2 run double from Chris Jacobs in the 9th. Jarrad Page made his baseball debut but went hitless in 4 at bats. The 27 year old former UCLA star played in the NFL for 5 seasons before switching to baseball. He played both sports for the Bruins.
-Great Lakes had another offensive explosion, piling up 11 runs en route to their 10th win of the season. Joe Winker hit his 2nd homer, which just so happened to be a grand slam, to give the Loons a lead in the 4th. Burlington would pull within 2 in the bottom of the inning but Great Lakes would add 5 more runs late in the game to seal the win. It wasn't easy, as Eric Eadington fell apart in the 9th, allowing 5 runs, but Yimi Garcia came in and, after walking a batter, recorded the final out for his 3rd save.
