-Another rough outing for a Topes' starter, with Stephen Fife taking the loss after allowing 7 runs in 4.2 innings. The game was put away in the 5th, when Fife and Scott Rice combined to allow 5 runs. The offense contributed 4 runs, including 3 solo homers.
-Crazy game in Chattanooga, going 14 innings with a wild finish. Chris Withrow started strong with 5 K's in 2 innings but his control quickly betrayed him. A run in the 7th would tie the game, which would prove to be only the halfway point. In the 14th, Nick Buss was hit by a pitch to leadoff the bottom of the inning. A Luis Nunez single would send Buss to second and both runners would advance thanks to a wild pitch. J.T. Wise grounded out without scoring a run and Blake Smith was intentionally walked to load the bases. Up came Blake Johnson, the Lookouts' 7th pitcher of the game. Having just one plate appearance in his minor league career, it seemed like a logical move to force the reliever to bat. But Johnson came up swinging, singling a pitch into center field, bringing in the game-winning run and walking off a winner on the mound and at the plate.
-Rancho couldn't compensate at the plate for struggles on the mound, with starter Greg Wilborn giving up 5 runs in just 2.1 innings. Lake Elsinore scored 13 runs on 13 hits, with the Quakes compiling just 2 on 6 hits. Doubles from C.J. Retherford, Chris O'Brien and Jon Garcia weren't enough.
-Ryan O'Sullivan wasn't at his sharpest, but the Loons offense picked him up in a big way. After falling behind 3-0 in the second, Great Lakes would score twice in the bottom of the inning and Pedro Guerrero's grand slam would put the Loons ahead for good. Joe Winker picked up a pair of doubles, with Schebler adding his 12th. James Baldwin reached base twice, stole three bases and threw a runner out at 2nd. O'Koyea Dickson reached base twice as well, lowering his OBP to .475.
Lucas Harrell isn't going to win any strikeout titles, the way Clayton Kershaw did last season. On…
