Dodger Prospect Profile: Pedro Guerrero

Pedro Guerrero, signed in 2006, is quietly having a strong season for the Great Lakes Loons.

Shortstop Pedro Guerrero led the Great Lakes Loons to a 9-6 win over the Bowling Green Hot Rods with a grand slam in the third inning.

It was Guerrero's second home run in as many days as he's batting .282 with three home runs since being demoted from High Class-A Rancho Cucamonga after batting just .150.

"When I came here I was to work on seeing the baseball," Guerrero said. "I've been pretty good at it these last couple games.

The Hot Rods (25-23) took an early 3-0 lead off a three-run home run in the second, but the Loons (25-23) answered with two runs in the second and Guerrero's grand slam in the third to take a 6-3 lead.

It was Guerrero's second at-bat when he hit the grand slam, in his first at-bat he hit a triple of the centerfield wall and his sites were set for the cycle.

"After the home run I wasn't thinking about it (the cycle)," Guerrero said. "But after I sat down I thought ‘OK I have two at-bats with a homer and a triple, all I need is a double and base hit,' that probably cost me the rest of the game."

Guerrero went 0-for-2 with a strikeout to finish his day, but his teammates did plenty of work at the plate to help him out.

This isn't the first time Guerrero has been in Midland, he was on the team in 2010 and he struggled then batting just .167, but now he's experienced and has a new role.

"My first time here I didn't do so well," Guerrero said. "But now I do feel I have a leader role, I talk a lot more."

The 23-year old Dominican native has been in the minors since he was 17 and he's having one of his best seasons so far let alone one of his best weeks.

He is batting .375 for the Loons dating back to May 19 as he has helped push his team back to a tie in second place in the Midwest League Eastern Division.
