McVaney Leads LFT to Win (4/29 Recaps)

Jeff McVaney and the Flying Tigers have climbed out of the bottom of the division, riding a great offensive performance to a huge win over Charlotte. McVaney had a homerun and three runs driven in in the win. Toledo was on the wrong end of an extra innings game against Norfolk, falling to the Tides on a walk off hit in the eleventh inning. Erie and West Michigan also lost on Monday.

Toledo and Norfolk gave fans extra innings on Monday but a walk off hit from the Tides in the bottom of the eleventh inning was the difference as the Mud Hens fell 6-5. Starting pitcher Shawn Hill struggled in earning his no decision, giving up five earned runs on five hits in five innings of work. Jess Todd earned his first loss of the season in relief. Jordan Lennerton had a big game for Toledo, driving in three runs on a 3-for-4 night at the plate.

12-10, 1st in Western Division

Erie carried a 3-0 lead going into the eighth inning against Binghamton on Monday but a four-run bottom of the eighth by the Mets proved to be the difference as the SeaWolves fell 4-3. Warwick Saupold was strong in his no decision start, giving up no runs on four hits in seven innings of work. Reliever Michael Morrison earned a blown save and the loss, giving up three earned runs on three hits in ? innings. Daniel Fields notched his third homerun of the season out of the designated hitter spot, going 2-for-4 with the solo shot in the loss.

High-A Lakeland Flying Tigers
10-14, 5th in North Division

The bats continue to be hot in Lakeland as the Flying Tigers hit double digits in the run column once again to top Charlotte 12-3. Kyle Ryan moved his record to 3-1 with the win, giving up one earned run on six hits in 6 ? innings of work. Jeff McVaney had another big game for Lakeland, going 3-for-5 with a homerun and three runs driven in in the win. Eugenio Suarez also drove in three runs in the win.

Low-A West Michigan Whitecaps
10-12, 5th in Eastern Division

West Michigan struggled to drive in runs on Monday, driving in only one as the Whitecaps fell to Beloit 6-1. Starter Yorfrank Lopez earned his first loss of the season, giving up two earned runs on three hits in five innings of work. Mario Martinez was the lone West Michigan hitter to drive in a run, going 0-for-2 with an RBI in the loss.
