Last year, these states only produced five top-three round picks that turned pro: Puerto Rican 3B Jan Hernandez/Phillies, South Carolina's C Nick Ciuffo/Rays and RHP Akeem Bostick/Rangers along with Louisiana RFs Justin Williams/D'Backs and Ivan Wilson/Mets. Arguably the three best prep prospects in Alabama (RHP Keegan Thompson, CF Anfernee Grier and RHP Kevin Davis) all made it to campus at Auburn for various reasons while arguably the top prospect in Louisiana (LHP Garrett Williams) made it to campus at Oklahoma State. This year's class is similar but looks a bit stronger with Grant Holmes superior to Ciuffo, the only first rounder of the 2013 group, and a couple more players in Ti'Quan Forbes and Chase Vallot that I prefer to anyone else in last year's group.
The talent is spread pretty evenly throughout these states and is spread pretty evenly amongst the top programs. SEC powers LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State get most of their players from this area, with other high-end SEC programs like Florida, South Carolina and Vanderbilt dipping their toe in along with some other programs outside of the SEC.
