Ledee's RBI Wins-- Rehabbing Ricky Ledee struck out five times in six at-bats but his final trip to the plate produced a game-winning RBI single as Jacksonville edged Carolina 3-2..

The game started on Thursday and ended late Friday evening due to numerous rain delays. The seven-inning second game of the doubleheader was postponed until tonight when the Suns and Mudcats will play two seven-inning games.

With the score tied 0-0, play resumed Friday after an hour and eight minute rain delay. Suns pitcher Alvis Ojeda, who had taken over for Thursday's starter Heath Totten, opened the scoring in the bottom of the fifth inning with his first career hit, a solo home run, to give the Suns a 1-0 lead.

But Ojeda saw the lead slip away on a home run, a double and a throwing error on Ledee.

Jacksonville fought back to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth inning with a Jimmy Rohan ground ball that drove home A.J. Ellis.

After the eighth inning, another shower halted play for an hour and 15 minutes. Following the delay, Jacksonville's RHP Brian Akin entered the game and put the Mudcats down in order in the top of the ninth to set up the heroics in the bottom half.

Chin-Lung Hu singled and Tony Abreu sacrificed and both were safe when the pitcher's throw was wide at second base.. Ricky Ledee smashed a shot over third base to score Hu and give Jacksonville a 3-2 victory.

Wesley Wright worked two scoreless innings and Akin improved to 1-0 with the win.

RHP Spike Lundberg will start the first game and LHP Scott Elbert, in his Double-A debut, will start the second.

Raptors Lose Close One-- Slumping Ogden could solve three Idaho Falls pitchers for only five hits to fall 3-2.

Josh Bell led off the second inning with a home run (# 2) while recently signed Tommy Giles drove in another run with a sacrifice fly but the Raptors could muster little else as they dropped their third game in four decisions. Bell was the only Raptor with two hits.

Steve Johnson (1-2) pitched a creditable game, going 6 2/3 innings, yielding seven hits and all three runs. He walked one while striking out six.

Now 8-10, Ogden is four games out in the Pioneer League South. --Bill Shelley.

Dodgers Lose Two to Marlins-- Suddenly there's a race in the Gulf Coast East as the second place Marlins managed what amounted to a doubleheader sweep to cut the Dodgers' division lead in half to two games. First the Marlins won the completion of Thursday's rainout 4-3, then edged the Dodgers again 6-5 in a pair of extra inning games.

The first was tied at 3 when lightning caused Thursday's suspension in Jupiter. Playing the continuation at Dodgertown, the game went to the 10th when the Dodgers loaded the bases with no one out.

A groundout and two strikeouts later, the runners were still out there. Then, with two out in the bottom of the inning, a home run sliced just inside the left field foul pole gave the Marlins the victory.

In the second contest, which had been scheduled for seven, the Dodgers took a 3-1 lead behind Jhonny Nunez, who gave up only a single hit in the five innings he worked.

But in the top of the seventh with a man on, Kengshil Pujols apparently got out off the inning with a strikeout. However, catcher Esteban Lopez couldn't handle the pitch, then threw high to first to load the bases. Oswaldo Martinez delivered a grand slam for a 5-3 Marlins lead.

In the bottom of the seventh, Francisco Lizarraga ripped a solo shot to left (his first) and Kenley Jansen doubled home another run for a tie.

But in the top of the eighth, Wilfredo Diaz (1-1) walked the first three men. Steve Preziosi came on and the Marlins tried a squeeze play. Preziosi almost made the leaping catch of the bunt but could only trap the ball as the run scored.

He got out of the inning with a pitcher-catcher-first doubleplay and a groundout but the damage was done as the Dodgers went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the inning.

Lizarraga had a double in addition to his home run, Jansen added a single to his double and Lopez also had two hits for the Dodgers who are now 11-5. The Marlins moved up to 9-7. --Bill Shelley.
