Dodgers pass two-million mark in ticket sales

Posted Mar 3, 2007

LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Dodgers announced today that they have surpassed the two-million mark in ticket sales for the 2007 season faster than any year since 1993. More than 4,000 fans were lined up at Dodger Stadium by 9:30 a.m., and Opening Day, which is slated for April 9 vs. Colorado, sold out in under 15 minutes.

"Each year, our fans continue to come out in record numbers," said Dodger Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Marty Greenspun. "It remains our goal to continually put a winning team on the field and provide a fan-friendly environment that all Southern California Dodger fans will enjoy for years to come."

In 2006, the Dodgers attracted 3,758,545 fans, as the team led the National League in attendance for the third consecutive season. The Dodgers also extended their Guinness World Record for the Highest Cumulative Attendance for a Baseball Franchise, a number that has surpassed 172 million fans since 1901, when Major League Baseball began tracking official attendance. Since Dodger Stadium opened in 1962, more than 122 million fans have attended Dodger games.

The Dodgers have drawn three million fans for 11 consecutive seasons and a Major League-record 21 times overall. Among the 81 home dates last season, the Dodgers had 23 games where 50,000 or more fans were in attendance, along with 19 sell outs.
