The Great Lakes Loons might not have had a successful record as a team in their first year of operation but the home base in which they played certainly did, receiving two top awards.

The stadium, named the Dow Diamond, was chosen by Ballpark Digest magazine as the Most Outstanding New Park of the Year. The publication cited its innovative design, featuring, among other things, two fireplaces, two outside firepits, an enclosed concourse, the two-tiered Loon Loft and the team store.

Also, the Midwest League named those responsible for keeping the field in shape as the "Ground Crew of the Year. Matt McQuaid is the head groundskeeper for the Loons who led the top-notch crew.
