| DSL Opens, Dominican Dodgers Win First Two | ||||

The Dominican Summer League is underway and the Dodgers entry stopped two different Blue Jay squads, winning the first 5-1 on the strength of good pitching, then banging out 16 hits in their second game to take a 6-2 decision. | |||

Antonio Castillo (1-0) allowed only three hits and a single run over his first start of the season in the DSL opener. Christian Gonzalez added three scoreless innings over the the next three innings and Yennifree Hanson closed it out with a hitless ninth. The three pitchers combined to strike out 10 Jays while walking none. The Dodgers collected all the runs they needed in the third inning when with one out, Edward Bens, Marlon Sucre and Marlon Grispin singled in succession. A pair of wild pitchers allowed the other two runs. Bens homered over the center field wall in sixth and Erick Lantigua singled and moved up on an error in the eighth. Bladimir Franco singled before Bens knocked in his second run of the game with a sac fly. Gustavo Dominguez started and allowed only a single hit in his four innings. Geraldo Martinez gave up the Jays two runs before Rogelito Chery (1-0) put out the fire and earned the win. Charlie Mirabel earned a save. Franco had three hits, including a pair of doubles, and knocked in two runs. Sucre singled and tripled, also collecting a pair of RBI. Adrian Aviles doubled and singled.
