Lindsey's Homer Sinks Bees
John Lindsey smashed a game-winning home run in the ninth inning and, along with tight pitching, Las Vegas swatted Salt Lake City 6-3.
While the Pacific Coast League does not
play a spilt schedule, here is the 51s
record at just over the half-way mark:
Pacific Coast League
South Division w-l pct gb
Sacramento 41-19 .586 --
Las Vegas 39-32 .549 2.5
Fresno 32-37 .464 8.5
Tucson 27-44 .380 14.5
Justin Orenduff started and allowed only three hits but one of then was a fourth inning home run. He left after six innings after allowing nine hits and two runs, four walks and striking out six and with a 3-2 lead.
The 51s scored in the first when leadoff man Jason Repko singled, stole second base and scored when Xavier Paul singled. They boosted the lead to 3-1 in the fourth on singles by Angel Chavez and Sergio Garcia. A wild pickoff attempt at first scored Chavez and Wilkin Ruan's ground ball to the right side drove in Garcia.
Greg Jones, leading 3-2, took over in the seventh and with one out hit a batter and walked another. Greg Miller took over and allowed a game-tying single but then struck out the final man in the inning to preserve the tie.
Miller (2-2) worked a scoreless eighth and the ninth inning smash by Lindsey, his 14th of the season, with Repko and Terry Tiffee on base, put Miller in line for the win.
Brian Falkenborg worked an easy 1-2-3 ninth for his 12th save.
Lindsey, Chavez, Garcia and Ellis all collected two hits.

Suns Win First Half Finale
Jacksonville waited out a 3 1/2 hour rain delay, then edged Huntsville 4-3 in the final game of the Southern Division's first half. It was the Suns third win in the four-game series and their pitching held the Stars, who came into the series with a .300+ average, to a .207 mark.
The final first half standing:
Southern League
South Division w-l pct gb
Birmingham 40-30 .571 --
Montgomery 34-36 .486 6.0
Jacksonville 33-37 .471 7.0
Mississippi 30-40 .429 10.0
Mobile 29-41 .414 11.0
Jesus Castillo (5-3) pitched six innings and allowed seven hits and three runs. Travis Schlicting worked two and Zach Hammes saved his second game. Between them they allowed a single hit and fanned three.
The Suns held onto a three-run first inning after Adam Godwin singled, Ivan DeJesus walked and Jamie Hoffmann slugged his fourth homer of the season over the left field wall. The eventual winning run scored on the fourth on an RBI single by Gabriel Gutierrez.
The Jacksonville win kept Hunstville from clinching the first-half title and when the Suns meet West Tenn in a six game series starting Tuesday, the first game of the series will be the playoff for first in the division.
Jacksonville finished the first half with a 33-37 record, and Suns manager John Shoemaker summed up the first 70 games with one word to Jeff Elliott of the Jacksonville The Times-Union.
"Inconsistency," he said. "We had moments of greatness, and we had moments of mediocrity. We had inconsistencies with our pitching and offensively, we have some newcomers here that were just trying to figure out what Double-A is all about.
"That probably describes us best the first half, being an inconsistent team, winning four or five in a row, then losing six, or winning three, losing two. We never got on a big winning streak and we only had two losing streaks of more than three in a row."
Shoemaker said he likes the team chemistry, and the team is playing hard. The Suns are likely to stay together much of the second half with the possible exception of a pitcher or two.
Jacksonville opens second-half action Tuesday at Birmingham.
