DeWitt went from minor league spring training to the Opening Day roster and spent most of the season as the Dodgers' primary third baseman before the club acquired Casey Blake from Cleveland on July 26, sending the slumping DeWitt to the minors to make room. DeWitt figures to spend the rest of this season backing up both Blake and second baseman Jeff Kent after putting in extended time at second base during his month-long stint in the minors.
"He was OK (at second)," Las Vegas manager Lorenzo Bundy said. "He had a couple of plays where he tried to rush it a little bit trying to get a double play, but he made most of the routine plays fine and got a little more comfortable turning the double play. He knew where he needed to be on cutoff plays and relay throws."
DeWitt, 23, batted .257 in 88 big-league games earlier this season, but he hit .306 with four homers and 18 RBIs in just 27 games at Las Vegas. He went 11-for-22 with three doubles, a triple and two home runs in his final four games there.
Ozuna, whom the Dodgers signed on July 20 shortly after he was released by the Chicago White Sox, was hitting .167 in just 18 plate appearances.

--RHP Greg Maddux gave up four runs (two earned) on eight hits over 5 1/3 innings and lost for the second time in two starts since the Dodgers acquired him from San Diego on Aug. 19. He is now 0-7 with a 4.39 ERA this season against National League East opponents. Against all other clubs, he is 6-4 with a 4.15 ERA.
--OF Andre Ethier, who entered the game in a 5-for-31 slump, had two doubles and his team-leading 17th home run. It was his sixth home run in his past 12 games. He also has 11 RBIs and 14 runs in his past 15 games.
--RHP Ramon Troncoso threw one pitch and recorded two outs on a groundball double play hit by Washington's Willie Harris. Troncoso has now worked scoreless relief in 20 of his 25 appearances during his rookie season. He had pitched 8.2 consecutive scoreless innings until he gave up a solo homer to Philadelphia's Chase Utley on Friday night, and since then, he has retired nine of 10 batters over three appearances without giving up a walk.
--1B James Loney went 3-for-5 with a home run and a double. He is now batting .464 (13-for-28) over his past seven games, hitting safely in each of them. He also leads the club with 72 RBIs, including a team-leading 22 since the All-Star break.
--3B Casey Blake hit his first home run in 12 days and went 2-for-3. Blake had gone 3-for-22 in his previous seven games. He is now batting just .205 (15-for-73) over his past 20 games.

RHP Cory Wade (shoulder inflammation) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to Aug. 9. He is expected to be activated in late August.
RHP Brad Penny (shoulder inflammation) went on the 15-day disabled list Aug. 14, just six days after he came off of it following a stint of almost two months. If he does return this season, it might be as a reliever.
CF Andruw Jones (irritated patellar tendon in his left knee) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to Aug. 10. He began a rehab assignment with Class AAA Las Vegas on Aug. 16 but injured his knee chasing a flyball, setting him further back.
RHP Takashi Saito (sprained right elbow ligament) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to July 13. He was scheduled to throw off a mound on Aug. 29 but figures to be out until at least mid-September. If he has a setback, he could be facing Tommy John surgery.
SS Rafael Furcal (lower back tightness) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to May 6, and he was transferred to the 60-day DL on July 4. He was expected to be activated May 23 but was sore that morning. He started a rehab assignment with Class AAA Las Vegas on June 30, and he felt discomfort in his back the next morning. He had surgery July 3 to have a disk in his lower back partially removed. He won't return before September.
RHP Scott Proctor (sore right elbow) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to June 22, and he was transferred to the 60-day DL on Aug. 19. He began a rehab assignment with Class A Inland Empire on Aug. 2, but was shut down a few days later due to renewed soreness in the elbow.
OF Delwyn Young (strained right oblique muscle) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to July 24. He began a rehab assignment with Class AAA Las Vegas on Aug. 16.
RHP Yhency Brazoban (sore right shoulder) was called up from the minors and placed on the 60-day disabled list July 22.
RHP Jason Schmidt (right shoulder surgery in June 2007) opened the season on the 15-day disabled list and was transferred to the 60-day DL on May 20. He began a rehab assignment May 11. He was hit in the calf with a line drive during a rehab start on May 31, and the "new injury" extended his stay in the minors. He began a new rehab assignment with Class AAA Las Vegas on June 28, but had a setback in mid-July. He threw off a mound Aug. 20, and he was getting close to resuming his rehab assignment. If Schmidt returns to the Dodgers this season, it would be as a reliever.
C Gary Bennett (plantar fasciitis in left foot) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to May 19, and he was transferred to the 60-day DL on June 25. He had a setback in mid-June, and there was no timetable for his return.
INF Tony Abreu (sore right hip) opened the season on the 15-day disabled list, and he was transferred to the 60-day DL on May 13. He had season-ending surgery May 28.
