Paul Barbeau has received the prestigious Midwest League Executive of the Year award, recognizing the Loons’ president and general manager for leadership in the areas of general park operations, ticket sales, concessions and overall baseball operations. The Great Lakes Loons are the second-year Single-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers and members of the Midwest League.
“I am extremely honored to be selected by the Midwest League as the Executive of the Year,” Barbeau said.
“Of course none of what we have accomplished with the Loons since our inception in 2007 would be possible without the continued support of Bill Stavropoulos and the Michigan Baseball Foundation, our hard-working staff, our outstanding sponsors, and most importantly our fans.”
Barbeau was hired to run the Loons’ in 2006 following a highly-successful seven-year run as the president and general manager of the Spokane Indians Baseball Club. Barbeau is the team’s longest-tenured employee and has been instrumental in the launch of the franchise. In 2008, he guided the franchise in a season that saw the team host the league’s all-star game.
In addition to his duties with the Loons, Barbeau is the president and general manager of ESPN 100.9-FM (WLUN) and serves as the vice president and secretary of Michigan Baseball Operations.
He is also on the operating board for the non-profit Midland Community Center, on Chemical Bank’s Midland Community Bank board of directors, on the planning committee of MidMichigan Medical Center, Midland, is a member of the Midland Noon Rotary Club, and has been selected to appear at numerous community organizations to speak on behalf of the Loons.
“Paul has been very instrumental in the success of our franchise,” said Loons’ founder and Michigan Baseball Foundation President Bill Stavropoulos. “This is a tremendous honor for him and the entire Great Lakes Loons organization.”
