The tenure of Albuquerque Isotopes manager Lorenzo Bundy lasted roughly two months, as the skipper has been named first base coach of the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Diamondbacks announced.
Bundy took the place of former Arizona first base coach Lee Tinsley, who left to take the same position on the staff of new Seattle Mariners manager Don Wakamatsu, a fomer Albuquerque Dukes catcher.
Prior to his two years at the helm of the Dodgers’ Triple-A affiliate in Las Vegas, Bundy spent four seasons in the Diamondbacks organization as a hitting coach. The Dodgers have not unveiled a timeline for an announcement on a replacement.
Bundy, 50, spent the past two seasons managing the Pacific Coast League’s Las Vegas 51s, the Los Angeles Dodgers’ AAA affiliate. Last season, he managed the 51s to a 74-69 record, good for second place in the PCL’s Pacific Southern Division.
Prior to his time in the Dodgers’ organization, Bundy spent four seasons in the D-Backs’ farm system as hitting coach, the last three with the Tucson Sidewinders (AAA). He helped the Sidewinders capture the PCL and AAA championships in 2006. His four-year tenure was interrupted by a three-month stint as the bench coach for the D-Backs during the 2004 season. Bundy has accumulated a 498-543 record (.478) in eight seasons as a minor league manager.
The Albuquerque Isotopes, Triple-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, will open their 2009 campaign on April 9 and season tickets as well as mini-plans are on sale now.
