The Dodgers will continue their longstanding tradition of honoring the men and women serving in our armed forces with a special military day when the team takes on the Kansas City Royals in Cactus League action tomorrow (Friday).

Special half-priced tickets will be available for persons serving in any four of the military branches, including retired and reservist personnel. The ceremonial first pitch will be thrown out by Brigadier General Kurt F. Neubauer, commander, 56th Fighter Wing of Luke Air Force Base. The 56th Fighter Wing’s mission is to train F-16 pilots and maintainers while deploying mission-ready warfighters.

General Neubauer, a United States Air Force academy graduate, is in charge of more than 180 F-16 aircraft and 27 squadrons, the largest fighter wing in the U.S. Air Force. More than 400 F-16 pilots and 470 crew chiefs graduate annually under his command.

In addition, the National Anthem will be sung by NC 1 Steven Powell, a member of the United States Navy, and the colors will be presented by the Luke Air Force Base Honor guard.

The neighboring Luke Air Force Base has already become a welcomed contributor to Camelback Ranch – Glendale and the Dodger organization, taking part in opening day festivities as well as a fly-over for pre-game entertainment.

Hall of Fame manager and Special Advisor to the Chairman Tommy Lasorda will also greet the Airmen of Luke Air Force Base today when the legendary coach tours the base to speak to the men and women stationed there.

No stranger to military bases, Lasorda has visited more than 35 U.S. military bases around the world and has given motivational addresses to the Air Force Academy nine times, West Point twice, the Naval Academy twice, and to the National War College in Washington DC.

Veteran Dodger broadcaster Rick Monday, a former Marine and 37-year licensed pilot himself, has taken part in numerous trips to Luke Air Force Base to talk to the Thunderbird and F-22 pilots. Monday also hosted a group of airmen from Luke AFB earlier this spring at a game at Camelback Ranch – Glendale.
