The Dodgers placed reliever Cory Wade was placed on the disabled list with reoccurring shoulder bursitis and LHP Scott Elbert was recalled from Double-A Chattanooga. Wade's problem flared up during spring training, went away and now have come back.
The Dodgers’ 10th-round pick from the 2004 draft was the club’s primary eighth-inning set-up man during the second half of 2008 after Jonathan Broxton took over the closer’s role.
Wade feels it is nothing major but it has grown worse since he pitched last Saturday against Arizona. The move was backdated to Sunday, which means he is eligible to return on April 27.
He'll go to Camelback Ranch on Monday, when the team leaves for Houston, and pitch in a couple of extended spring training games there to get himself right.
?"We can't be one man short in the bullpen," Wade said. "Those guys have been working hard down there. We're just doing what is best for the team." Wade will rehab at Camelback Ranch in Arizona.
?Scott Elbert had made two starts at Double-A Chattanooga totaling eight innings, allowing four runs (three earned) and a 3.38 earned run average. He has walked four, struck out nine and held hitters to a .266 average.
Elbert, who will wear No. 57 and is eligible for today’s game vs. Colorado at Dodger Stadium, started two games with Chattanooga and posted no record and a 3.38 ERA (3 ER/8.0 IP). He last pitched Wednesday vs. Montgomery (Rays), allowing two runs (one earned) in 4.0 innings of work while throwing 81 pitches.
The 23-year-old Elbert made his Major League debut in 2008 with the Dodgers, making 10 appearances and posting a 12.00 ERA (8 ER/6.0 IP) from August 29 to regular season’s end.
He will, in all probability, work out of the bullpen, giving the Dodgers three lefthanders, including Will Ohman and Hong-Chih Kuo.
