Raptors Blow a 6-1 Lead

Angelo Songco Promoted

A four-run eighth inning gave Billings an 8-6 come-from-behind win over Ogden. Billings (6-14) added a final run in the ninth.

Ogden's Brian Cavazos-Galvez (#13 election in the 2009 draft) homered for the fourth consecutive game as the Raptors (11-9) lost #5 round pick Angelo Songco, the league leader in home runs (7), who was promoted to Great Lakes.

Starter Luis Vasquez allowed an unearned run in the first, but walked the bases loaded in the fourth and was rescued by right fielder Jerry Sands who started in on a line drive before backtracking to make a leaping grab to end the inning.

Vasquez allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits in 4.2 innings but walked six and had two wild pitches.

Jordan Roberts took over and was followed by Nick Gaudi (#31), who was tagged with three runs, two earned, before retiring the final batter in the seventh. Daigoro Rondon (0-2) was also tacked with an unearned run, the third of the game, and took the loss. The blown save was the third of their homestand.

The top four in the Ogden order were 9-for-19 with three doubles, a triple and a homer. He left with a 5-2 lead.

Ogden leadoff hitter Lenell McGee went 3-for-5 with a double, Brian Ruggiano doubled and tripled and Cavazos-Galvez continued to pound the ball as Ogden collected 14 hits.

Cleanup hitter Jerry Sands went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles as six different Raptors had RBI hits as the Ogden charged to a 6-2.

Sands and Songco have led the Raptors to the home run lead in the Pioneer League leaders in all the power categories as well as batting average. Songco will be replaced on the roster by Blake Smith, the highest 2009 draft selection to play for Ogden this season.

Taken in the second round as the 56th overall draft pick, the 6-foot-2, 220-pound outfielder has appeared in six games in the Arizona instructional league.

Ogden is off today before beginning a seven-game Montana road trip against Great Falls and Billings.

The Pirates rallied twice, scoring two in the eighth and three in the ninth drop the Dodgers 10-9, the winning run crossing the plate on a wild pitch.

The two clubs made 12 errors between them and each cost the respective clubs three unearned runs in the game. A fateful error in the ninth allowed the tenth run and cost the Dodgers a win.

Noel Acevedo added two scoreless innings and then handed the game and a 9-5 lead over to Jose Mateo and Jonady Nuñez (1-1) who allowed the final three runs (one earned) in the ninth and took the loss. The winning run crossed the plate on a wild pitch by Jose Garcia who only faced one batter.

Freudys Perez was a perfect 3-for-3 with a double and a home plus four runs batted in for the dodgers. Bladimir Franco also collected three hits. However the Dodgers left 11 runners on base.
