For the youngsters in the audience, Reiser hit .343 and won the National League batting title at age 21, then battered himself against the unpadded outfield walls chasing fly ball until he couldn't play any more at age 28.
Kershaw will not make his next start as scheduled Friday at San Francisco because of a bruised right shoulder.
Kershaw was examined by team doctor Neal ElAttrache on Sunday.
"The only issue for me is if he reaches for a ball," manager Joe Torre said. "There's no issue throwing-wise. It's the whole package."
Torre already had expressed concern about Kershaw's mounting innings total, so pushing the left-hander back a few days isn't something he will stress about. Earlier this season, Kershaw's spot in the rotation was skipped even though he was healthy.
Kershaw, 21, has thrown 159 innings this season. Last season between his time in the minor leagues and with the Dodgers he pitched 169 innings, the most of his young career.

--LF Manny Ramirez was ejected for throwing equipment in the third inning at Arizona on Monday. After taking the first two strikes, Ramirez struck out swinging and threw his helmet first, followed by his bat. Home-plate umpire Doug Eddings tossed him immediately. Ramirez had hit a home run in the second inning. It was his second ejection this season.
--C Russell Martin stole his 59th career base on Saturday to tie Johnny Roseboro for most stolen bases in franchise history. The milestone bag came against the Padres on the back end of a hit-and-run as Jim Thome struck out. Martin has 10 steals this season, well off the pace of the career-high 21 bases he swiped in 2007. He had 18 steals last year.
--LHP Randy Wolf won his 100th career game Saturday against the Padres, a mark that looked like it might never come with his 14 no-decisions this year. Wolf is 10-6 this season, but the Dodgers are actually 19-11 in his 30 starts. RHP Jeff Weaver, who is 6-4, is sitting on 99 victories.
BY THE NUMBERS: 26 -- Consecutive games the Dodgers' pitching staff has allowed five runs or less, through Sept. 6. Dodgers pitchers have a combined 2.66 ERA (70 ER/237 IP) over that stretch, the best mark in the major leagues. The last time the Dodgers gave up more than five runs was Aug. 9 in an 8-2 defeat to the Atlanta Braves.

--1B James Loney hit the second of back-to-back home runs with Manny Ramirez in the second inning. It was the 10th home run for Loney this season, all on the road. His last home run at Dodger Stadium came Aug. 21 of last season. Counting the playoffs, Loney hit four road home runs last season after his Aug. 21 shot, giving him 14 consecutive on the road.
--PH Jim Thome did not pinch hit as he nursed a sore right heel. Thome, who has a history of plantar fasciitis, aggravated the injury when he flied out as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning Sunday. Thome is 1-for-3, with a single, since he was acquired from the Chicago White Sox on Aug. 31.
--3B Casey Blake was held out of a third consecutive game because of a tight left hamstring. He tested the hamstring in running drills before the game. The biggest problem comes when Blake bends over to field groundballs. No progress is being made on the injury, so the Dodgers will alter their treatment.
--CF Matt Kemp needs two more RBI to give the Dodgers two players with at least 90 RBI for the first time since 2006. Andre Ethier leads the Dodgers with 92 RBI, followed by Kemp's 88. The last Dodgers duo to do it was J.D. Drew (100 RBI) and Nomar Garciaparra (93) in the 2006 season.

3B Casey Blake (left hamstring tightness) did not play Sept. 5-7. He's expected to miss a handful of games.
PH Jim Thome (sore right foot) left the Sept. 6 game with soreness. He's day to day.
RHP Hiroki Kuroda (concussion) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to Aug. 16. He made a rehab start for Class A Inland Empire on Sept. 1, and he started for the Dodgers on Sept. 6.
RHP Guillermo Mota (ingrown toenail) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to Aug. 30.
RHP Jason Schmidt (strained right shoulder) went on the 15-disabled list retroactive to Aug. 6, and he was transferred to the 60-day DL on Aug. 27.

LHP Will Ohman (sore left shoulder) went on the 15-day disabled list May 29, and he was transferred to the 60-day DL on July 30. He began a rehab assignment with Class A Inland Empire on June 16, but he was shut down June 24 due to an ailing elbow.
