Dodgers rookies who saw action during 2009 included catcher A.J. Ellis, outfielders Xavier Paul and Mitch Jones and pitchers Scott Elbert, James McDonald, Brent Leach, Travis Schlichting and Ron Belisario. Only McDonald and Belisario saw any extended action.
Chris Coghlan of Florida won the coveted award, out-scoring Phillie pitcher J.A. Happ who finished second with 94 votes.

It is the second year in succession that a Dodger rookie has not received a vote. In 2007, Andre Ethier, Takashi Saito and Russell Martin finished fifth, eighth and ninth in the Rookie of the Year voting. There have been no Dodger winners since Hideo Nomo in 1995.
