Dodgers Rip Haren, DBacks 13-3

John Ely ... first Major League win

Arizona starter Dan Haren used strikeouts to record the first nine outs of the game and Ernest Thayer's poem "Casey at the Bat" came to mind. (The outlook wasn't brilliant for the Mudville nine that day...). But he Dodgers knocked him out in the seventh and recorded a 13-3 win behind the solid pitching of rookie John Ely.

The Dodgers have now won five of their last six games and eight of their last 11 and at 16-17 have crept into third place, 3.0 games behind the division leading San Diego Padres. The Dodgers have now scored 42 runs while winning four of five matchups against Arizona this season. Rookie John Ely (1-1) drew his third major league start and pitched six shutout innings.
