Kyle Russell Wins Player of the Week Honors
In addition to the gaudy batting average, Russell posted a .548 on-base percentage, an even 1.000 on-base plus slugging mark along wit two doubles, four home runs and nine runs scored. Russell was honored previously for the week of April 19-25.
The Dodgers prospect spent the week consistently ripping line drives and four of them landed on the far side of Cal League fences. From Tuesday to Saturday, Russell homered in four consecutive games (he was out of the lineup Friday), driving in 14 runs in those contests.
He collected five RBIs and was a triple short of the cycle on Wednesday and then repeated that performance Saturday. He cooled off with a 1-for-5, three-strikeout game Sunday, but his single did knock in a much-needed run for the 66ers, who ended up losing, 9-8, to Rancho Cucamonga. Russell's 15 RBIs led all of the Minor Leagues during the seven-day stretch.
Russell is tied for the California League lead in homers and tied for second in RBI. He is second in total bases (107).
The left-handed Russell spent 2009 with Great Lakes in the Class A Midwest League, where he batted .272 with 26 home runs and 102 RBIs in 133 games. He was named a postseason All-Star with the Rookie-level Ogden Raptors of the Pioneer League in 2008.
Inland Empire has won six of its last nine games after an 11-game losing streak.
