Round 31, Derek Cone, RHP, Mesa Community College (Ariz.)
The first selection of the Dodgers day three action, Cone was 6-4 with a 1.93 ERA and 105 strikeouts in 84 innings during his last year at Mesa. At 6’5, Cone has the ability to be an intimidating presence on the mound.
Round 32, Devon Ethier, LF Gateway Community College (Ariz
This Ethier is 20 years old, eight years younger than his older brother, Andre Ethier. Drafted five rounds earlier than his brother, Devon is hoping to follow in the footsteps of his sibling. Outside of playing the outfield, there aren’t many similarities between their games. Devon is a light-hitting outfielder who can make decent contact and steal bases.
Round 33, Brett Lee, LHP, Bishop State Community College (Ala
Lee is a left-handed pitcher with the ability to get into the mid-nineties on the radar gun. The Dodgers can never have too many of those in their stable.
Round 35, Brett Beau, 1B, Southern Cal
As the nephew of George Brett, Beau fell into the Dodgers penchant for selecting based on bloodlines. The Southern Cal athlete made on five starts last season, but did manage to hit .300. During his freshman season at Cal he finished with two hits in 14 at bats.
Round 43, Chad Wallach, RHP, Calvary Chapel High
Another “all in the family” selection, Wallach is the son of former Dodger and current Triple A Albuquerque coach Tim Wallach. Chad will most likely not sign with the Dodgers as he has already committed to Cal State Fullerton.
Round 47, Cody Martin, 1B, Chipola Community College (Fla.)
This Martin has a direct relation to their 2008 first round selection Ethan Martin. He is also a cousin to this year’s second round choice Ralston Cash. Martin is perhaps best known for his unsportsmanlike play during a high school championship game in 2008. Martin threw a pitch directly at an umpire, while his catcher ducked, allowing the ball to hit the ump square in the face. To view the play, click here.
