Dodgers Lose Out on Lee Sweepstakes
The first proposal that was declined involved the Dodgers moving their star first baseman, James Loney. Loney's current and potential production proved to be too much of a loss to bring in another top tier pitcher. This season Loney is batting .310 with five home runs and a team leading 59 runs batted in.
The second proposal, and one that may have been worth pulling the trigger on, was a deal involving Chad Billingsley and prospects. Even though Billingsley is locked up long term, and Lee's contract expires soon, the chance to add a clear cut front line starter does not come along frequently.
While many experts have considered the Dodgers to be non-participants in this year's trade deadline, their activity with the Mariners could point to an unexpectedly eventful July.
