Week in Review

The clock is ticking on the Dodgers 2010 campaign. Jonathan Broxton is reeling, Rafael Furcal's back is acting up again, and Joe Torre may already be making vacation plans. After blowing a seven run lead to the Phillies, the Dodgers now stand nine games out of first place in the NL West. LADugout.com has the latest information on the Dodgers and analyzes where the season is headed.

Can Broxton be Trusted?

Jonathan Broxton has clearly not played to his ability since closing out the All-Star game. In the past month Broxton has blown three saves, received four losses, and walked 11 batters in eight innings. In his latest collapse against the Phillies, Broxton relinquished four runs without recording an out and helping the Dodgers complete a choke-a-thon loss that began with a seven run lead.

Adding to Broxton's troublesome second half is the fact that Joe Torre announced he will be temporarily removed from the closer's role until he can straighten his head out.

Kemp Bounces Back

One of the few bright spots of late has been the improved play of Matt Kemp. Since a temporary benching in favor of new-comer Jay Gibbons, Kemp has four hits in seven at bats and has also contributed six RBIs while only striking out once. Now that the Giants have added another bat in Jose Guillen, the Dodgers will need all their firepower operating at full force to get back into the race for the NL West.

Jansen Going Strong

Former catcher Kenley Jansen has continued to impress during his stay in the big leagues. The young right-hander has yet to allow a run in 7.1 innings while striking out 11 and walking only two batters. Following Ronald Belasario's four run, zero out appearance in the loss the Philadelphia, Torre should be turning to Jansen more frequently down the stretch.

Same Problem, Different Season

The familiar news of Rafael Furcal's ailing back has once again surfaced in Los Angeles. The starting short stop was placed on the DL, retroactive to August 3rd and may not be ready to return when he is eligible.

Notes from the Dugout:

Jeff Weaver experienced a positive bullpen session and should be returning to the Dodgers line up in the near future.
