The Dodgers led the National League in relief pitching in 2003, posting a 2.46 earned run average. The nearly did it again in 2004 (3.01), losing the title on the final day when they lost a meaningless game to the Giants by a 10-0 margin. In 2008 they were second to Philadelphia by a margin of .12, 3.34 to the Phils 3.24.
