Thompson, Nesbitt Show Well as FSL All Stars

Nesbitt represented Lakeland in the FSL AS Game

BRADENTON, FLA-- The grounds crew would roll out and retract the tarp numerous times during rain delays of more than an hour before Saturday evening's mid-season classic. When all was said and done, the weather would clear up and an outstanding, memorable game would be played in front of the 5,882 in attendance at McKechnie Field.

Rallying in the ninth inning, the North Division All-Stars would plate four runs defeating the South Division All-Stars 6-4; snapping a three-year losing streak in the 53rd playing of the Florida State League All-Star Game. Cubs prospect Andrew McKirahan would earn the win and Tigers prospect Angel Nesbitt would earn the save. Cubs prospect Gioskar Amaya was named the MiLB.com Top Star.

Prior to the game Minnesota Twins 13th ranked prospect (according to MLB.com) Adam Brett Walker followed a 35 point first round, with a 36 point second round to defeat Cubs prospect Bijan Rademacher in the Home Run Derby.

Tigers catcher Austin Green could not escape the first round of the Home Run Derby, finishing with just one homer and a total of 23 total points. Green would redeem himself in the ninth inning though, sparking the rally with a pinch hit single that plated a run, drawing the North Division within a run.

Tigers prospect Jake Thompson struck out Pirates prospect Josh Bell to begin the second inning. Following the strikeout, back-to-back singles put Thompson in a bit of hot water. The 20-year-old buckled down though and struck out Mets prospect Brandon Nimmo and Rays prospect Justin O'Conner to end the inning.

Tigers southpaw Josh Turley allowed two-earned runs off three hits over an inning of work in the third. Teammate Kevin Eichhorn pitched a scoreless seventh inning, allowing a hit and a walk, striking out one. Flamethrower Angel Nesbitt needed just fourteen pitches to retire the side and strike out two, earning the save in the ninth inning.
